Thank you for your interest in joining the Town and Gown Advisory Committee!

Applications are being accepted for four vacancies on the Town and Gown Advisory Committee - three citizen representatives and one landlord representative. If appointed, your term as a member of the Town and Gown Advisory Committee will begin upon appointment and last for the duration of the current term of City Council (ending late 2022). These are unpaid, volunteer positions.

Advisory Committee Eligibility

To be eligible to serve on the Town and Gown Advisory Committee, you must:

  1. Reside in St. Catharines OR be an owner / tenant of land for the duration of your term (or spouse of same);
  2. Be a Canadian Citizen OR Permanent Resident who has resided in St. Catharines for at least one year. 

Application, Evaluation and Selection Process

  1. Submit your application using this form. Applications are due by October 29 at noon ( 12 p.m.) and will not be accepted after this time. 
    • Applications will only be accepted using this online form.
    • Applications must be completed in full to be accepted.
    • For an application to be considered "Completed in Full" you must see the "Thank You" page, which is the last page of the online form.
    • Upon completion of the application form you will receive a notification email from the City advising you that your application was received.
  2. After October 29, the members of the Social Sustainability Pillar will review the applications and recommend individuals to fill the vacancies.
  3. The names of the individuals recommended to fill the vacancies will then be provided to City Council for consideration. 
    • A confidential memo will be sent to City Council containing the names of the individuals recommended for appointment. The names are provided through a confidential memo as public discussion of the merits of individual applicants could be considered a personal matter about identifiable individuals.
    • The appointments approved by Council will be published in the meeting minutes.
  4. Once the vacancy appointments are approved by Council, all applicants, both successful and unsuccessful, will be notified via email of Council's decision. 

Expense Policy for Advisory Committee and Task Force Members

It is important that all citizens have the opportunity to participate in local government. To this end, the City is committed to removing barriers to increase participation in advisory committees and task forces to ensure Council’s decisions are informed by a diversity of voices and perspectives.

All members of the City's Advisory Committees and Task Forces can submit expenses for the eligible expenses outlined in the City's Expense Policy for Advisory Committee and Task Force Members. This policy allows for the reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred by volunteer members of advisory committees and task forces. Please refer to the policy noted above for additional information.
